Laughter Yoga is a unique concept of laughter without a reason. There is no need for humour, comedy or jokes – it’s simply childlike playfulness and laughter which becomes contagious. It’s a combination of laughter exercises and deep breathing bringing more oxygen into the body and brain. The benefits are that it immediately lifts the mood, reduces stress and boosts the immune system.
The Laughter Yoga movement was started by Dr Madan Kataria, a general practitioner, supported by his wife Madhuri, a yoga teacher, in 1995 with just 5 people in a park in Mumbai, India. There are now tens of thousands of Laughter Clubs in more than 105 countries around the world.
