Here at the Cube on Sunday, 2nd July, we have an amazing dance show.
Srishti – Nina Rajarani Dance Creations is a London based dance company that exists to create and present work that maintains the authenticity of Indian classical dance and music, whilst presenting these forms in innovative ways and within contemporary contexts.  The company works in the Indian classical dance style called Bharatanatyam along with classical Karnatic music, both traditions originating from Tamil Nadu in South India.
Bharatanatyam is a classical dance form that used to be offered in the temples of South India as a form of worship to the gods and goddesses of the Hindu religion.  Therefore, even today, it is a dance form much revered, and is practised and performed with devotion for the attainment of spiritual purification.  Characterised by its strong lines, geometry and symmetry, as well as its highly expressive mime, it is probably the most popular classical Indian dance style worldwide.
Vichitra is a programme devised to display both the divinity and diversity of this beautiful dance form.  Commencing with a traditional and humble opening that pays homage to the sacred performance space, the performance moves onto the portrayal of a feisty heroine confronting her unfaithful lover. The scene then shifts to the heroic encounter of Lord Krishna with the poisonous serpent Kalinga, followed by a dance of exuberance that plays with the complexities of rhythm that is synonymous with Bharatanatyam.  The performance culminates in Shukra, an abstract work that celebrates the planet Venus within the Hindu aesthetic where it is personified as a male force, the guru of the anti-gods.

We look forward to welcoming you. It’s really helpful if you get your tickets in advance via www.MalcvernCube.com although we do also expect them to be available on the door.

If you have a love for the Cube and all it does, you might also be interested to hear that after many years of commitment our wonderfully dedicated current chairperson is due to take a step-back. We’re glad that we will be able to retain their help and advice on the committee but it does mean we are looking for a new Chair of Trustees.

Malvern Youth & Community Trust, are the Charity which oversees the operation of Malvern Cube (Youth & Community Centre).
The Trustees invite expressions of interest from anyone in the Malvern community who has an interest in the life of Malvern Cube and who would be willing to support the mission of the Trust – available at www.malverncube.com.

This is a volunteer role to develop the work of the Charitable Trust by joining a well established, committed and professional Trustee body.   The new Chair will provide leadership to the Board (including chairing monthly Board meetings) as it develops and delivers the next phase of exciting development.
Please direct expressions of interest to Carola Bennion, Vice Chair MYCT, by email at carola@beaconcic.org
An application pack will be available on request  – closing date 14th July.
