Malvern Cube Garden Header

What a weekend it looks set to be here at the Cube in this glorious sunshine!

In reverse order, Sunday is theatre all the way with both family and grown up productions taking to the stage.

Starting at 2:30pm on Sunday (25th June) for children aged 4+ The Selfish Giant by Oscar Wilde, that’s been adapted by Sea Legs Puppet Theatre tells the story of The Selfish Giant. Since building a wall to keep the children out of his garden, the only visitors the Selfish Giant gets are Lady Snow and her friends. One morning he hears the most beautiful music coming from his bedroom window and is delighted with the sight that greets him.

Set in a magnificent steel sculpted garden, the story is told using beautifully crafted puppets, a brilliant musical soundtrack and superb storytelling.

It’s a captivating show in the relaxed environment of our community theatre space so everyone is very welcome, with under 3’s free.

In the evening the theatres attention is turned to the adults.

It’s incredibly exiting to have Rhodri Miles who many know from televisions Game of Thrones, Eastern Promises and Atlantis coming to the Cube!

In Burton, which starts at 8pm on the same Sunday, he vividly presents the life of the great Welsh actor in his own words from humble beginnings to Hollywood mega-stardom.

Beautiful women (not least Liz Taylor), alcohol, wealth, stage and screen are the threads woven into this sad, happy, exuberant often hilarious one-man show. Drink was the only real anodyne to his deteriorating health and mental state, his doomed tempestuous relationship with Taylor and his constant guilt over the abandonment of his family.

Burton has received critical acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and Hollywood Fringe Festival where the play won ‘Best International’ show as well as being widely respected elsewhere:

“Fantastic, the whole audience was in the palm of his hand from beginning to end” ***** Edinburgh Guide

“Charming, Elegant one-man show which struggles to remove itself from the memory” **** The Scotsman

“Welsh actor Rhodri Miles delivers a brilliant and gripping portrait” ‘Critics Choice-GO’ LA Weekly*****

“Clever, concise, alcoholically tragic and furtive storytelling” LA Theatre Review*****

“A masterful performance” British theatre guide

Tickets for both of these events are available from or will be available on the door on the day.

Before that on the Saturday, 24th a gang of us are getting together with the experts to build a clay Cob oven at the Cube for breads and pizzas etc. Hopefully serving during events and actives on the site throughout the year.

Give the office a call if you’d like to get involved with this. We’d be glad of a hand and you’ll pick up tips and tricks to take on for may be making your own. Give us a ring in advance, ask for Jon.

Looking ahead there’s lots of other events to come so once again you can see whats on sale already via the website. Lots of things have been selling out fast as our reputation increases so people in Malvern have sometimes missed out – remember to get your tickets in advance as soon as you are able.

Enjoy the sunshine. It’s nice and cool in our theatre space so we look forward to welcoming you at the weekend.
